These names are interesting. In terms of the open general manager position of New York Islander, everyone is looking at the usual suspects and some emerging people, maybe they should look elsewhere.

These are four names that people should talk about, but not.

Mark Yannetti – Currently Director of the Los Angeles Kings (2007-present) Reconnaissance and Amateur Scouts. Yannetti used to be the Pro & Emateur Scout of Toronto Maple Leaf in 2000-2007

Under Yannetti, a graduate of Brown University and Williams College, the Kings have been one of the best teams to make and develop players. Additionally, Yannetti looked at the right players, who were brought to the 2012 and 2014 Kings won two Stanley Cup titles. Not to mention their AHL team, Manchester Monarch, won the Calder Cup in 2015, where he helped manage the team in Manchester.

Yannetti has an outstanding record in amateur scouts, with 30 NHL players participating in over 200 games and ranked second with success rates from 2006 to 2015. Yannetti’s ability and innovation in analysis, Yannetti is the main candidate for NHL General Manager and has developed through DERTALLENTILT and built a good development.

Mike Futa – Former Assistant General Manager of the Los Angeles Kings (2017-2020), Director of Amateur Scouts (2007-2014) and Director of Players (2014-2017)

Another member of the King’s Management System. Together with Yannetti, Mike Futa helped the organization bring both Stanley Cup titles in 2012 and 2014. Futa is the general manager of the AHL series and also helped win the 2015 Calder Cup. His background includes serving as general manager in the OHL and focusing on reconnaissance at the professional and amateur levels. Additionally, Futa understands the importance of hiring coaches he did in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Ross Mahoney – Assistant General Manager, Washington Capitals (2014-present) and Director of Amateur Scouts (2000-2014)

If these two gentlemen were general managers in the NHL, Ross Mahoney should definitely be. The Washington capital is a staple of the NHL, at the AHL level with their Hershey Bears. Mahoney led the Bears to Calder Cup victories in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2023, and the team became the finals in 2007 and 2016. Additionally, the Capitals won the Stanley Cup in 2018 under his reign as assistant general manager in Washington. Mahoney has 27 draft Admateur sweating backgrounds in the amateur search. Not to mention his philosophy of using analysis and hiring coaches to develop.

Martin Madden – Currently Assistant General Manager and Amateur Scouting Director of the Anaheim Ducks (2020-present) (2008-2020)

Madden is currently the assistant general manager of Anaheim Ducks, and the team drafted Troy Terry, Pavel Mintyukov, Trevor Zegras, Leo Carlsson, Beckett Sennecke, Olen Zellweger, and others. Over time, Madden gained experience through professional and amateur ranks, knowing which players to look for will help build the future of NHL and AHL franchises. Not to mention his extensive background in player development, as he uses analytics to help the team. In addition to these skills, he assists in contract negotiations by using these numbers for comparison.

All of these gentlemen have been highly qualified based on the Ivy League background, business hours and excellent record of their location. Why don’t they bring the best people to achieve similar success when teams want to copy from the best?
