Newcastle manager Eddie Howe praised his team for not being distracted by Wembley’s upcoming League Cup final to win a much-needed Premier League victory at West Ham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes scored the only goal of the game, lifting Hipies to sixth place on the table.
They are now facing Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday, making Chacen lifting Dmoines Trophy for the first time in 70 years.
“That was one of our best wins of the season, not in terms of performance, but in desire and heart.
“We showcased all the important ingredients you need to be a successful team. When the game is tight and you find a way to go beyond the line, you need to win. After the first three minutes, we had a very good defense, which was a little scary. We deserved the win.
“That’s why for me it’s a good win, the players are easily distracted, but they’re on the court. We’ll be totally focused on Liverpool now. We’ll be thinking about everything.
“I feel like we need to win and get to the finals with real advancement and advancement.”
Beating West Ham put them in 16th place, and owner Graham Potter was upset about the only goal of the game.
He said: “I think this is our firm expression.
