Newcastle midfielder misses the rest of the season

Joelinton is unlikely to play for Newcastle again this season after a knee injury.

The 28-year-old midfielder missed the victory over Ipswich last weekend and returned to Brazil to rest and recuperate.

Entering the weekend’s journey to Brighton, Hipies ranked third in the Premier League and looked good to return to the Champions League.

Manager Eddie Howe said: “With Joe, you’ll never rule him out. He’s very motivated to try to come back.

“We seek advice from experts, and the opinions are not serious, but he needs a break, so he is now in Brazil.

“We will wait and see if we can get him back before the end of the season, but the possibility may not be.”

Lewis Miley, Sean Longstaff and Joe Willlock are the contenders to replace midfielder Joe Lington.

After Howe was injured last weekend, he had some positive injury news as defender Sven Botman was a good fit to show up.

“Yes, he’s gone through (very good).” The manager said. “He got training this week and looked good and was very active to get him back.”
