Friedman: “Yes, I do think, first of all, I do think, that’s one thing that people are very aware of. It’s the longer you stick to a person, the less they probably don’t need to go where they want to go.
Now, I think, as you guys are talking about, Mike Sullivan will have a lot of abilities to choose his route. He has another two years of contract, so he has the ability to pick if he wants. But you know at least that it gives Sullivan more options and lets the team know he is there.
You know, one thing I totally agree with is that all of you are talking about it, and there may be some coaches currently hiring that will be a little nervous about it. I think, you know, if you’re not open, but you’re interested in Mike Sullivan, at least you want to think about it and explore it.
So I do think it’s a tremor in the coaching world today, in a sense, this big name is available now. It will certainly change the landscape.
But like, I have to tell you, I get it, I just don’t know that the Rangers aren’t the forefront of this after this season. Make sure no one will do better than before. When Chris Drury got the job in 2021, he made sure Mike Sullivan was out of service before he hired Gerard Galant.
They just work together in four countries. And, you know, I’ve heard criticisms of Sullivan’s coach over the past few years. If anyone has any questions about him, look at his coach, prepare and run for the team in that game. I know there are a lot of great players on that team. But that’s just, I think it should remind everyone, you know, Sullivan is a coach’s hell.
After the year the Rangers had just had, I can’t imagine them letting anyone out of themselves in pursuit of Sullivan than the Rangers did. ”
