Buffalo Saber requires at least one defender to be added

Luke Hughes is a top priority for the New Jersey Devils, but they have a few other free agents that require a new contract
Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com: Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec are waiting for the New Jersey Devils’ RFA defenders. GM Tom Fitzgerald has begun talking to some free agents.
“The negotiations have begun, but you are talking to the same agent about other players on the team, such as the other players they represent, which is of course a priority. We are just trying to figure out what is the best option for Luke and us and how we can make our team better with the funds we have.”

The looming devils include Nathan Bastian, Curtis Lazar, Daniel Spring, Justin Dowling, Brian Dumoulin, Dennis Cholowski and Jake Allen.
Fitzgerald added that they have some holes to fill and they will monitor the trade and free agent market.
Alternate goalkeeper Allen wants to stay, and both sides try to find a number that fits both.
Fitzgerald is in Hughes.
“We only have so much (NHL salary) cap space, and we have to strategically figure out how to make our team better improve our team in terms of trading, market and available cap space, while also thinking what we can allocate to a great young player (Hughes). Both sides agree. … We will do that.”
