NHL Rumors: Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senator

Calgary Flames May Be Thinking of Connor Zary’s Bridge

Anthony Di Marco of Daily Stand-off: Calgary Flames may be looking for a bridge before RFA Connor Zary, a source said. Zary scored 27 points in 54 games last season. He has dealt with some injuries and has some problems. Sources say they might think of a three-year contract of about $3 million. This is similar to what Alex Newhook got from the Montreal Canadaens.

The flames also have pending RFAs in Kevin Bahl and Morgan Frost.

Adding scoring help on Ottawa Senators’ radar is their confiscated draft picks and Claude Giroux

Julian McKenzie of athleticism: (Mailbag) They were forced to give up their first-round picks in 2025 or 2026 due to misconduct by Ottawa Senators against the Evgenii Dadonov industry. Will the NHL finally forgive their former owner/GMS errors, or give them the final round of the first round, as the NHL did for the 2014 New Jersey Devil.

  • Puckpedia:”It did not appear #gosensgo Election was forfeited ’25 first round pick. According to the NHL’s punishment, they decided to confiscate ’25 1st 24 hours after the lottery draft. Since the first time in 25 years, they have either confiscated 26 or may reduce the penalty.”

Some of the Senators’ top six free agent options may include Nikolaj Ehlers, Mikael Granlund, Ryan Donato and Brock Boeser. The Ehlers may be the best, but he will attract great interest from the team Mitch Marner missed. If the Senator goes to free agents, he does not consider the Senator as Mana’s main destination.

If the Senators go on the trade route of the top six wingers, Penguins’ Rickard Rakell and Kraken’s Jared McCann have the option.

Sens has no second-round pick in 2026, and may not have a first-round pick in 2026, so the paper provided may not be on the table.

It is believed that the Senator should try to sign Claude Giroux for $4.25 million a year. Puckpedia’s Giroux project is two years, ranging from $48,500 to $5 million.

Unless the Senate gets rewarded by a top defender or scored young players, there is no Senator deal. By 2027, he has a friendly $5 million deal, close to 30 goals scorers. If they trade him, they need to replace his score.

Senators may need to add right-handed defenders. Don’t think Sens should hurry up Carter Yakemchuk, they should give him a year in the AHL. Calgary’s flames may determine that Rasmus Andersson will not sign an extension with them, and they may have to explore the trade. RHD UFA may include Aaron Ekblad and Dante Fabbro. They may be cheaper on the Blue Lineup Upgrade and spend money on scoring.
