Kate Pettersson: “Now, another team that we've been talking about a lot this season is Montreal. Now they've won five of their last six games and they have a much healthier roster. However, they seem to Still continuing to focus on rebuilding, do you think we'll see them increase over the next few months, or will they decrease?
Pagnotta: “If they can do those two things, that will be a major target for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens. They have pieces that can be bought on the trade market, like David Savard , Christian Dvorak, Joel Armia, and even Jake Evans, all of whom are on expiring contracts that will continue to generate interest heading into the trade deadline.
Evans is an interesting one because they would love to keep him, but his value continues to soar financially, so they may have to weigh whether to keep him on a long-term deal for a decent price or move him out and get a a stable contract.
Mike Matheson's name is there, too.
That being said, I'm talking about the extras. They've made some moves over the past few summers, bringing in Alex Newhook, bringing in Kirby Dach. If they could follow that model and make a hockey type trade to bring in some young NHL caliber players, I think the Canadians would be open to exploring that.
So they consider both. They will look to move some pieces and gather assets and potentially use some of those assets to fill holes in other areas of the club for a long-term build.
