With the arrival of Masters in 2025, the golf civil war still breaks out, with no signs of a deal between the PGA Tour and Liv Golf in sight.
Earlier this year, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan expressed confidence that a breakthrough could be made. That tone changed a month later, Rory McIlroy need The transaction at this time.
In a former press conference, defending champion Scottie Scheffler admitted that he hopes he competes with people like Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau more than four times a year, but ultimately, it’s at the end of the day when those who leave decide when the game will come back.
“I definitely missed the game,” Schefler said. “They got some pretty good players on the tour. I still think the PGA Tour is by far the best player in the world. The depth of our field and our game is still the best competition in beating golf games. That’s why I’m still playing on the tour. I love competition. I hope some of them know their choice. For those who left, they’re going to testament.
“They did what they wanted to do and I couldn’t control their lives. I wouldn’t sit here and say they should do something different. They made the choice. If we want to figure out why the golf game isn’t coming back together, go ask those guys, ask these guys. Go anywhere you play this week and find out when the game will be back.”
With the game still breaking down, the trip to Augusta Nationals represents the first time that all the best players in the world will be in the same location since last year’s open championship.
Last year, 13 LIV players received invitations to participate in the Masters. This figure is down from 18 in 2023 as it is unable to reward World Golf official ranking points for its tournament. This year, that number has dropped to 12, as Adrian Meronk is not eligible for a trip back to Mulan Lane.
Liv has seven past master champions and three players who have qualified based on recent major wins. Tyrrell Hatton qualifies for his OWGR rating, thanks to the DP World Tour victory. He also ranked ninth in the Masters last year. Joaquin Niemann received a special invitation.
Here is a list of LIV golfers who played in the 2025 Masters, including their qualifications. (Several bonuses were obtained through multiple qualification criteria.)
