Oilers beat Kings 6-4 to win the first round of the series – Hockey Writer – Edmonton Oilers

Phase 1

Game 6 turned into a shooting gallery earlier. Both teams caught fire early and scored four goals ten minutes before the game was bigger. The Kings’ Quinton Byfield silenced Rogers’ first goal in the first stage, with the first goal standing out on Oilers goalkeeper Calvin Pickard. Assisted to Kevin Fiala and Alex Laferriere. Adam Henrique tied the game with a 3:04 mark and assisted Connor Brown and Evander Kane. The Kings were only 33 seconds in a close-up match with Brandt Clarke. Assisted to Phillip Danault. The Oilers tied with a first-place 5:55 with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins’ powerful goal match. The assists went to Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman.

The Oilers led the game by 12:48 in the tip of one of Hyman’s Darnell Nurse’s shot. The second assist went to Nugent-Hopkins. Kings goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper continued his outstanding performance while Pickard settled down and made some key savings late in the first phase. Goal shots: Oiler 14, Kings 11.

Phase 2

Both teams continued to trade high-crisis opportunities early in the second phase without lighting the lights. Pickard saved the series for the Oilers early in the second phase, setting off with obvious forward Warren Foegele. Nurse D-Man of Oilers scored his first goal in his second goal, his first playoffs, giving the Oilers a 4-2 lead with a 14:59 run. Assisted to Vasily Podkolzin and Mattias Janmark. Stage 3

The first five minutes of the third stage were made with Kuemper and Pickard. The Kings played a strong game with a 7:49 run, but Pickard was thwarted, and he made several key savings while the Oilers passed by harshly. When Pickard was hit by Kings’ Mikey Anderson, the Kings approached the score at 5:37, forcing defender John Klingberg to come up with a snow angel that would save the oilers’ crease. The king pulled Cooper with 4:18 remaining 4:18 and kept the oil man under pressure. Pickard made a huge mat with a 3:29 to put the Oilers ahead by 2. With 53 seconds left, Anze Kopitar scored on a redirected shot from Drew Doughty to keep the Kings alive. It was a strong last minute, with Connor Brown having eight seconds left, topped by a helpless empty net goal by Connor Brown. The final shot of the goal: Oiler 29, Kings 26.

Kuemper and Pickard were excellent in both this match and in the series. Pickard provided the Oilers with the clutch goalkeeper they’ve been looking for, winning four straight games for Edmonton.
