Andre Onana responded to former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic after the Serbian questioned the goalkeeper’s recent comments.
What does Andre Onana say?
Before Man Utd’s Europa League tie with Lyon, Onana felt candid when talking about the team’s chances to reach the semifinals.
He said: “We all know the importance of this game and we will go there with a winning mindset. We have to go there to show who we are. If we focus on focusing, stay tight and together and follow the game plan, we will win the game.
“Of course, it’s not easy, but I think we’re better than them.”

Matic, who spent five years at Old Trafford before going to Roma, slammed Onana’s claim that United were “better” than their midweek opponents, claiming that the Cameroonian was “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history”.

The midfielder quipped: “If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history, you need to take care of what you are talking about.
“If David De Gea, Peter Schmeichel or Edwin van der Sar said, I would ask myself, but if you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s modern history statistics, he needs to show that before he says it.”
Now, Onana responds – and seems to be another dig for Matic.
He posted on X: “I will never disrespect another club. We know tomorrow will be a tough game against a strong opponent.
“We focus on preparing for the show to make our fans proud. At least I have canceled the trophy with the greatest club in the world. Some people can’t say the same thing.”
The position was accompanied by Onana kissing the FA Cup after last year’s final, and United won after defeating Manchester City at Wembley last May.
By contrast, Matic didn’t win any major honors despite three finals and two Premier League runner-ups.
Onana’s latest comments seem unlikely to end the dispute between the two, but it remains to be seen whether the spark will continue to fly after the kickoff on Thursday.
