Padraig Harrington finished his third round of the U.S. Senior Open at Broadmoor Golf Club in a high note on Saturday, making chips for Birdie to ensure he will play in the final match on Sunday afternoon.
A 30-year professional golf career ensures Harrington has surpassed many tours, but Saturday’s 18th hole birdie means three-time major champions at the age of 53 meeting Rare first match on Sunday: Playing with the same guy in all four rounds.
“I don’t think it’s ever happened. I’m not sure if it happened,” Harrington said Saturday. “If there was a guy I would pair with, it was Stewart Sink, that’s for sure.
He continued, “Yes, I think I’ve done it for four days in a row.” “We’ve been very close all the time, with Mark [Hensby] There, Mark added a lot to the group today, the three of us. The group seems to have been tremendous motivation all the time. As I said, it is a very relaxing, happy group. ”
Harrington paired with Cink and Justin Leonard in the first two rounds – the grouping was put together by USGA. After 36 holes cuts, the player will be re-formed by scoring, the leader will have the last game. Harrington was a co-leader of the tournament in two consecutive rounds, along with Cink (68-66) and Australian Mark Hensby (67-67), so the three teamed up for the third round.
Then on Saturday, all three players signed 68 rounds, with Harrington solidifying his position in the final group stage of Sunday’s leg. Thomas Bjorn was one shot behind, and it was almost the same overall.
So, on Sunday, Harrington will once again compete in the final round of the U.S. Senior Open with Cink, four consecutive rounds – something he didn’t remember before. But luckily for Harrington, the atmosphere is great.
“It’s a very pleasant group, I have to say,” Harrington said. “It’s still early, but we seem to be happy that we make birdies for each other and keep going, which is important in the group.”
