The PGA Tour has not yet decided whether to hold the Genesis Invitational scheduled for February 13-16 at Riviera Country Club due to the impact of massive wildfires in the Los Angeles area.
Riviera, located in the Pacific Palisades community and home to the 2028 Olympic golf course, is part of the evacuation order. In a memo to players Thursday, the PGA Tour said the course was not directly affected by the fire.
“It is premature to discuss potential impacts to the Genesis Invitational at this time,” the memo said. “While Riviera Country Club was not directly affected by the fire, our primary concern is the health and well-being of the affected community, including those with All members with connections in Southern California. We will keep members updated as the situation develops.”
Golf tournaments require hospitality tents to be constructed around the course.
After two days of strong winds, several major fires broke out in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. About 180,000 people are under evacuation orders, and the fires have burned about 45 square miles — about the size of San Francisco. The Palisades Fire is already the most destructive fire in Los Angeles history, with more than 5,300 structures destroyed as of Thursday afternoon.
Tiger Woods is the host of this iconic event, which offers a prize purse of up to $20 million.
