Pinehurst Resort today announced that the 11th-place Pinehurst, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, will begin construction at Pinehurst Sandmines later this year and is expected to open in fall 2027. Within the outline of the Coore & Crenshaw route, past mining operations are still evident. They have been the feature that attracts the pair since they won the famous restoration of Pinehurst about 15 years ago.

“It’s a great website just because of its inherent character,” Cool said, marveling at the mixture of local elements and artificial residues, some of which are still from pit golf links open. “This character is created by nature, not all natural, but is restored by nature. This land is left out from all mining in the 1930s. Pets piled up here, nature provides trees, which is incredible. It’s incredible. It doesn’t get this combination often, and it creates a place that’s very fun for golf.”

While Doak’s 10th-place high change and wide-ranging vision attracted attention, Coore & Crenshaw saw something unique in No. 11. They envisioned a golf course that still waving twists and twists in shape and style, sharp ridges and huge mounds that can be carried around.

“The two dishes are really no different, and we love that,” said Tom Pashley, president of Pinehurst Resort. “The designs of No. 10 and No. 11 complement each other by comparison. Golf in Dunes in North Carolina is different from anyone else, and we believe the golf at Pinehurst Sandmines will be a great representation.”

For someone like Coore, who grew up in North Carolina and ventured several times to Pinehurst when he was young, playing famous designs in the area, the 11th place terrain is different from anything he saw around Pinehurst.

“It’s a rough ridge,” Cool said. “It didn’t change much, but it was so weird for the ridges, piles, trees and angles. It would be so intimate.

Building 11 marks another milestone for Pinehurst Sandmines in a short time. No. 10 has received many honors since it opened a year ago, and this summer, other sand ore elements have gathered together. 6,000 square feet of professional shops and locker rooms will open in June and August Sandmines’ restaurants and bars will be opened. Accommodation plans for guests living on the property are underway and may be formulated by the end of 2027.
