Prithvi Shaw's year was not one to remember as he suffered one setback after another. Due to his consistent performance on the domestic and international circuits, he has been surpassed by several talented young people.
In October 2024, Shaw was left out of the Mumbai squad after scoring just 59 runs in four innings during the first phase of the Ranji Trophy. The decision was widely interpreted as a subtle warning to the right-handed batsman, who is notorious for his disciplinary and fitness issues. Just a month later, Shaw suffered yet another disappointment as he failed to sell in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, despite his name being shown to teams twice at a base price of Rs 75 lakh.

The 25-year-old scored a crucial 26-ball 49 in the quarter-final against Vidarbha. However, in the semi-finals and finals, he only scored 8 points and 10 points respectively. Shreyas called Prithvi a talented player and said if he maintains the right work ethic, the sky is the limit for him. However, the former Kolkata Knight Riders captain said it is important for the opening batsman to realize what he needs to do and work towards getting his career back on track.
