Pro golf competition in 12 hole courses? Nick Faldo is counting on it

A professional golf competition with 12 hole courses? Nick Faldo believes this is bound to happen.

“I’m making a prediction that you’re going to see it in the next five to seven years,” he said.

Faldo’s comments are published in the latest episode of the golf travel podcast Destination Golf, where six-time major champions reflect changes in matches and wider socio-economic shifts that bring new thinking in golf design.

“We broke the stigma of not having fun or challenging enough or not having good quality enough,” Faldo said. “It’s a whole new world.”

Faldo isn’t the first to celebrate a short class. But he’s been loving them for a while. A few years ago in England, he built a 9-hole course for himself and hired a full-time principal, Faldo said: “Because I was the only one to play it because I was bored.”

Time has changed. The game culture recorded in it can now be grown as a basis, so the scores recorded in it can now be posted into the World Barrier System. Rare is the top package that has not yet been invested in smaller feet of playgrounds.

As far as Faldo is concerned, Faldo is also going all out, recently working with Faldo’s long-time design partner Paul Jensen to specialize in what it calls “golf balls in small spaces” and with ambitious ambitions to build everything from the backyard short game setup.

Faldo said it was nearly impossible for the past few generations to sell the concept. He knows. He said he tried it a few years ago at a Bermuda property, which would be perfect for short courses if only the owners were willing to use it from the box.

“They said, ‘No, it has to be the champion, shot 72.”

However, in recent years, as golf’s popularity continues to grow, the possibility of courses has also expanded. Faldo firmly believes that it is only a matter of time before the elite competition adopts short courses.

“It’s perfect for professionals like Good Old Crosby (AT&T), he said. “You hit 12 holes in the morning, had a great lunch, and then played 12 more holes in the afternoon. It’s easy to do the day. It’s also great as a company deal and a fan.”

Is it impossible? perhaps. But there are precedents. Faldo won three open titles by polishing four rounds in an 18-hole course. But the first open champion of 1860 played three rounds on the 12-hole layout of the Preswick Golf Club in Scotland.
