Rangers have taken a huge damage to the “huge” players after the latest news from interim manager Barry Ferguson.

GERS made an impressive performance on Ibrox on Thursday night, winning 0-0 in the Sports Bilbao championship in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinals.

Robin Propper was shown as a red card with only 13 minutes of play, providing a huge uphill battle for the Rangers, but they ended up keeping up the tough battle, with Liam Kelly saving Alex Berenguer’s penalty in the second half leading to a joyous scene inside the stadium.

While Ferguson’s team still has a lot of work to do before their daunting trip to Bilbao next week, they still have a great chance of improvement.

But one of the few negatives for the night for the Rangers was a serious injury to Dujon Sterling, the 25-year-old waving, causing fears of his absence.

Ferguson confirms huge Ranger injured hit

Talk to reporters on Friday (by Sky movement), Ferguson confirmed that Rangers defender Sterling suffered a long-term injury to Bilbao and his season is definitely over:

“I’m just some bad news about DuPont – he’s going to go long. He has a serious news. I’m shocked by him, for some reasons.

“He came in, it was huge for me. He had the problem of injury and now we need to suffer another long spell off the court, which is what I destroyed. We’ll be around him, he’s a popular member of the locker room and a big player for me.

“We just need to get him back to health as soon as possible. I don’t know exactly [how long he will be out for] But I mean long term. I’m not a medical expert, but I’ve talked to the doctor and he’s going to go for surgery on Monday and we just have to wait and see how The surgery is performed. ”

It was a brutal blow to Sterling, who has been outstanding since arriving from Chelsea in 2023, with 70 appearances for the Rangers so far.

The British man has made 20 appearances in the Scottish Premier League this season, and Andy Halliday praised him, saying:

“I’m sure I’m sitting here with a lot of others, ‘Where is Dumont Sterling the whole season?’. It’s just incredible for me that he’s been on the team since his two shows.”

Hopefully, Sterling will return the same player as before and eventually return – at 25, this should be the case – but for Rangers, he is an effective team player, especially with a huge loss in the Europa League.
