Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will soon announce their captain for the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to RevSportz, the team will announce its new captain on Monday (January 20).
The report added that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) principal owner and RPSG Group Chairman Sanjiv Goenka will attend a special press conference at the RPSG headquarters in Kolkata on Monday. This would be big news for the future of the team.
A press conference may be held to announce the new LSG captain or unveil the team's new jersey.
In another report by IANS, it is reported that some team officials said that there may be two things at the press conference. First, announce the new LSG captain or reveal the team's new jersey. This is because some players will also be in attendance.
Lucknow Supergiants performed well at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Sanjiv Goenka's side picked up some big-name players at the auction, including Rishabh Pant, who became the most expensive buyer in history.
Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram are LSG's leadership choices
The need for a captain arose after the team chose to part ways with KL Rahul. The Indian national cricket team batsman has captained the team since 2022 and under his leadership the team reached the playoffs twice and reached the league stage last year.
But this time they have plenty of options to choose from. Rishabh Pant, who captained Delhi Capitals for the past few seasons, is expected to be the top contender. He will be joined by Nicholas Pooran, who served as vice-captain last year, Australia T20I captain Mitchell Marsh and South Africa T20I captain Aiden Markram.
LSG likely to captain Rishabh Pant in next edition of Indian Premier League
Since Rishabh Pant is a big name in Indian cricket, the team is likely to choose Rishabh Pant as the captain. Additionally, with his experience as captain of Delhi Capitals, the wicketkeeper-batsman is likely to play the role in his new team as well.
In their last press conference, Lucknow Supergiants appointed former India left-arm fast bowler Zaheer Khan as the new mentor of the team. This time, the team has made some wonderful versions in terms of player settings and coach settings.
It wouldn't be surprising if they go ahead and win the title this time around. The Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off in late March and the BCCI is expected to announce the lineup soon.
