Golf is more fun when you shoot lower scores. Of course, no matter how you play, there is enjoyment, but a certain level of satisfaction can only be achieved by posting lower numbers. It’s as simple as that.

Rory McIlroy talked to the media before the Travelers Championship, giving some great advice to any casual golfer looking to get a lower score – it’s easier to implement than you think.

“I will definitely help them read green,” he said. “But the last thing they need is more swaying thoughts in their minds as they play among these professionals.”

this Real McIlroy believes that the way entertainment can be better is simply playing smarter golf. This does not necessarily mean studying advanced analytics and dissecting the course in an expert way. Instead, McIlroy advises amateurs to be realistic about the shots they are trying.

“I think sometimes they try to shoot, or they try to shoot a shot, and they might be able to shoot one or two shots at 10 instead of hitting more percentages,” McIlroy said. “It’s boring, but it’s certainly the most effective way to lower the score.”

If you take your score seriously, be aware of this advice. If you can eliminate fines and big numbers, you will see your score drop quickly. The fastest way to reduce these errors is through smarter strategies.
