Before Rory McIlroy won the Grand Slam and even appeared on a TV talk show as a kid, the Persimmon Golf driver was always beaten by Metal Heads. But after testing a special custom persimmon driver at the Scottish Open Genesis Scottish Open, it seems that the world’s second-place can still thrive with old-fashioned club technology.

McIlroy is looking for a fourth win of the season at the Renaissance Club in Scotland this week, before returning to Northern Ireland for the final year of the year, the 2025 Open Championship for Royal Prothush in 2025.

McIlroy was approached by former professional and Sky Sports commentator John E. Morgan while practicing range on Tuesday. Morgan, a part-time Persimmon Golf Club Company, brought a special gift: a custom persimmon driver honoring McIlroy’s professional grand slam, who completed the event at this year’s Masters.

Among many custom details, the driver’s sole has a poppy representing McIlroy’s daughter poppy, in addition to the four professional names of golf, and Rory’s era won for the first time. The design is wrapped in the “Rory McIlroy Professional Grand Slam”.

The face is also tailored for McIlroy.

Morgan described the club’s face in the video of the present, “We have given you the color of the flag.

“Green top line, good guy,” McIlroy replied.

McIlroy Stripe Drive, with Illusion

If you don’t know, from the 1960s to the early 1990s, persimmon wood was the primary material used to make drivers and fairway forests. Compared to modern composite drives, the Persimmon Club has a tiny head in addition to its wooden building.

Their small size and lack of technology make them harder to hit than drivers in the past 20 years or so, not to mention today’s high-tech big sticks.

But McIlroy didn’t have the chance to try the club that had to compete with the game legend.

In a video released by the DP World Tour, McIlroy took his new persimmon driver, hit the ball and exploded along the middle of the fairway.

“Oh, companion! This is definitely a smoke,” Morgan said of the camera.

After a moment of silence, watching his sail leave, McIlroy turned to the camera and quipped, “I could have played in any era,” putting everyone in the range and into laughter.
