Rory McIlroy said on his way to working with Justin Rose on Tuesday that he was talking to him about it. In the world of professional golf, Ole 9-5 record labels were removed from the label of 1 to 52, because from New Year’s Day to New Year’s Eve, there always seems to be another game, always another swing, always another idea of swing. Note that he is not seeking sympathy and the office work type will not give him anything.
Still, when McIlroy of Northern Ireland and Rose of England returned home, they might start to be confused, albeit a little less.
McIlroy said: “Yes, I think what I’m going to say is the last few weeks, and I feel like I can separate a little bit more and hide it somehow. Sometimes you need to get out of the way completely – I feel like this golf ball might become all covered if you allow it.
“But I think if you removed a little from that environment — Justin Rose and I came here together yesterday and we were just chatting — I don’t know when you come back here, when you come back here, you stand out from that week, weekly grinding, when you’re going to be at PGA Tour Golf for the first year of the first 25, 30 weeks in this kind of first week.”
For those who keep scoring, we are in Week 28 of 2025, and the first 27 weeks are important for McIlroy. In early February, he won the victory at Pebble Beach. In mid-March, he won the Player Championship. In early April, he won the Masters and completed a professional grand slam. Then for a few weeks, it was spotty, partly attributed to his standards, some journalist outbreaks and some driver issues. However, so far, there is reason to believe that McIlroy will persevere, which not only needs to be successful, but also cashes in rebounds.
He has power. longevity. Wednesday was “one of the things that are sporting,” he said.
Of course, this idea is not surprising. But this is very revealing.
“What are you looking at [Novak] Djokovic has done it at Wimbledon in the past few weeks,” McIlroy said, “or what some of them do, or what people like Cristiano Ronaldo are still doing at the age of 40, or Tom Brady in the U.S. football game; that long-lived piece may not be enough to talk about.
“Because once you get to a certain level, I feel like the road is almost – no – I won’t say it’s easy, but you have motivation and you’re waving the waves. Then, once you get there, yes, yes, it takes a lot of work to do, and if there’s no more work, if not more work, I’m just staying in this year’s career.
McIlroy said that constant adjustments are the trick. Your situation a decade ago may have been outdated.
Rory McIlroy revealed the New Year’s resolution. Did he give it?
go through:
Sean Zak
But you have to remember who you are. This is a balanced act.
“So these talents and these players are constantly improving and keeping in better shape, and I think you have to adapt to the game to make sure you can get along with these generations, and I feel like I’m a generation ahead of Scottie, for example, he’s still 20 years old.
“You’ll see all these young kids, like Michael Thorbjornsen or Luke Clanton or these guys, who are ready to play at the highest level of college graduation, and you have to make sure you have the highest level of making you a player that is such a great one. But you have to also appreciate the trends, and you can also add my range, they can still, they can still do something I can do, and that’s all they can do. Trying to stay at their lead.”
The question is: How long will he do it?
With McIlroy, age is the same thing. He is 36 years old and the year of good golf is certainly still. On Wednesday, however, he talked about his family settling in a new home in the UK. He talked about having more “fun”, a New Year’s resolution, and he took a step by watching German football games, staying in Istanbul for a “night off” and then taking his daughter Poppy to ski in Montana. Of course, this is some kind of earth beating. But new priorities can emerge.
Then there is the Grand Slam, the most famous achievement that has been working on since the 2015 Masters. Maybe it will release his more professionalism. Maybe refocusing will be difficult. Last month, at the U.S. Open, he admitted a lot. He dreams of winning at Augusta – “But you don’t think about what’s going to happen next,” he said in Oakmont. Time will tell McIlroy where he will travel.
Although time may be already Tell. Although it is underrated, longevity can bring you some questions.
“This is my 18th year or tour,” McIlroy said. “I’ve won 16 years of professional events and I just think my motivation is constantly trying to get better or trying to find small holes to sort out in the game, and I think that’s a big part.”
