Ryan Garcia says he will fight Teofimo Lopez when he returns to the ring after his suspension this year. That's consistent with what Garcia's promoter Oscar De La Hoya said.
Garcia moves on
Oscar said there's no point in Ryan fighting Devin Haney again because he's already “destroyed” him. He said he wants Garcia to face WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs), who has no opponent after choosing not to defend Subril Matias.
Teofimo's career has stalled since losing to George Kambosos Jr. in 2021. Tiff Cratchit, Jamaine Ortiz and Xander Martin looked terrible in the game.
It's obvious that Top Rank was wrong about Teofimo and should have dumped him after losing to Kambosos instead of giving him a contract extension. He hasn't shown any improvement since that loss.
Garcia said he would “overturn” Haney, but he would need to drop the lawsuit against Haney. Haney has not said whether he will do so, but his recent comments suggest he won't. Unfortunately, this put him in a difficult situation, but he still had Turki Sheikh. He still believes in him and will help him this year.
If Devin loses once or twice this year, Turki will get a clue and will likely pass on him. He will realize that he is not worth the artificial investment of time and money. Turki had better give up on Hani early because he is already doomed.
“I'm going to call him a**” – Garcia
“No matter what happens, I will be ready. Looks like I'm going to fight Teofimo Lopez. So, that's good. I saw him today. He was a little weird, but other than that I was ready to yell at him. said to Secondsout during the game.
“I don't know. You'll have to wait and see,” Ryan said when asked about his fight with Teofimo. “But after I fight him, I will be the first to fight all three of the so-called 'Four Kings'. I am the only one of them to have fought all of them. Tank, Devin and Teo Fimo Lopez.
“I'm actually here to throw it away with everyone. It seems like everyone is scared or whatever is going on here
“Not for me,” Ryan said when asked if it was necessary to fight Devin Haney again so he could be vindicated after his victory was tainted by the New York State Athletic Commission due to a positive drug test and he was taken away. Walk. “Fighting Teofimo Lopez would be as satisfying as my rematch with Devin.”
At this point, Ryan will get more credit for beating Teofimo than Haney because he already beat Teofimo. He beat Haney in the ring from the first round.
Since Haney whipped Garcia last April, few would have given him a chance in a rematch with Garcia.
The boxing world is very interested in Garcia vs. Teofimo because the two have never fought before. The WBO 140-pound belt will be on the line and Teofimo can do his part to help push that fight forward. For his part, Devin relies on his father, Bill, to do most of the work of generating interest. That doesn’t work either.
“Again, I'm not saying I won't. I'll fall with him [Haney] again but they gotta stop all this crap [drop the lawsuit] Before I went in,” Garcia said.
Haney and Bill don't appear to be giving up on the lawsuit. They appear to be stuck and will likely fight to the bitter end with their suits, although doing so would be shooting themselves in the foot.
