Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has revealed that he wants to give up his goalkeeping duties for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Sanju Samson said the decision was taken after discussions with the Rajasthan Royals management and his teammate Dhruv Jurel.

Rajasthan Royals participate in IPL 2025 auction with minimum prize money of Rs. After retaining six players, the revenue was Rs 41 crore. Royals retained Samson (Rs 18 Crore), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rs 18 Crore), Riyan Parag (Rs 14 Crore) and Dhruv Jurel (Rs 14 Crore). RR also retained Shimron Hetmyer (Rs 11 crore) and Sandeep Sharma (Rs 4 crore).

In a conversation with AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel, Samson said that he will give up his wicketkeeping duties in IPL 2025. Very important to develop.

The 30-year-old cricketer stressed that he has never captained the field but he is willing to share the responsibility with Jurel. He also said that the team comes first and individuals are more important.

Sanju Samson to be the primary wicketkeeper of Rajasthan Royals from 2021

Sanju Samson has been the main wicketkeeper for Rajasthan Royals since 2021, although Jos Buttler has been around for years. Samson kept wickets in 111 of the 146 games he played for the team. His last appearance as a professional hitter was in 2022.

With Buttler's exit, RR is looking for a new opening partner for Yashasvi Jaiswal. Samson, who recently opened for India in the T20Is and hit three centuries in the last five innings, is also likely to assume the opener role for RR. Dhruv Jurel is expected to bat along with Nitish Rana and Riyan Parag.
