World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler said he's not sure whether he will play in next week's Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the second marker of the PGA Tour season Sexual event, he is still recovering from surgery to remove shards of glass from his body.
Scheffler told reporters via video Monday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational media day that he was injured while making homemade ravioli for Christmas dinner.
“The surgery went well,” Scheffler said. “Feeling good physically and still on track to make future decisions.”
Scheffler's agent, Blake Smith, said in a statement last month that the two-time Masters champion suffered a hand injury and will miss about three to four weeks.
Scheffler sat out the season-opening Sentinel Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii, which Hideki Matsuyama won. Scheffler also plans to compete in last week's American Express in La Quinta, Calif., which Sepp Straka won by two strokes.
After withdrawing from the American Express, Scheffler is aiming to return to the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Winner Wyndham Clark had four.
Scheffler has until Friday to get into Pebble Beach.
“Just trying to make sure I get back to normal and recover the right way,” Scheffler said. “I'm definitely eager to come back and excited to be back, but I'm also not going to rush back just for the sake of getting back…but everything is going according to plan, so we'll see.”
Scheffler, the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year and FedEx Cup winner, would not say when he would return to the golf course on Monday.
Over the past few weeks, Scheffler has watched a lot of videos of him playing in old tournaments to “jog my memory, and since I can't play golf, I've tried to do some drills almost at home to remind my brain that I should do what”. “It's unusual for me not to be able to do much in the gym,” Scheffler said. “I'm still able to go in and do some exercises and some of the things I normally do with my legs, but as far as my upper body, I'm not going to go in and just work my left side and go into the season. Scheffler last played on the PGA Tour in the finals of the 2024 Tour Championship in Atlanta, where he earned his seventh victory of the season and finished first. He also competed in the Hero World Challenge, an unofficial event held in the Bahamas in early December.
