Scottie Scheffler admits he made some interesting mistakes at the 2025 Oakmont Open.

In the world’s official golf rankings, ranked No. 1, 4 and 14, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Viktor Hovland all know more about golf rules and protocols than most people. But the challenging grindings raised by Oakmont at the 2025 Open put them in a round full of basic etiquette.
Scheffler revealed the hilarious incident of PGA Tour Star-Absentmentess on Saturday in Oakmont.
Scheffler messes up Morikawa’s U.S. Open Score
In the second round of the U.S. Open on Friday, Schefler, Morikava and Hofland played together for the second day in a row. Based on their experience in the first round, all three stars knew about the tough and exhausting test that beat the 10th at 7:40 a.m. ET.
But despite three groups, by the end of the day, the trio will be reduced to laughter to deal with a series of mistakes that are more common in your local Muni rather than in a professional golf tournament.

After the third round, Schefller provided details in a quick interview with NBC.
“It’s challenging, this golf course is tough,” Schefler began.
He then explained that at different points in Round 2, when the honing became particularly tough, Morikava and Hofland accidentally walked through Scheffler’s Putting Line, one of the most basic etiquette loopholes in the game.
“You know Collin, Viktor and I laughed yesterday at the score because there was an instance of Colin walking through my line yesterday because he panicked it on the green,” Scheffler explained. “Viktor did the same thing because he played a little hockey.”
But it turns out that the biggest mistake of the day in their group was awarded to Scheffler. As he admitted on Saturday, the world ranked No. 1, wrote incorrect scores on Morikava’s scorecard, not once, but twice.
“I messed up some points on Colin’s card. So we sat there and laughed and scored like ‘What are we doing there?’ Maybe once or twice a year, you messed up a guy’s score and I messed up two Colins yesterday.
“So, this is challenging in many different feelings,” he continued.
It is a good thing they notice that mistakes are otherwise brought into the discussion and it is unlikely that either of them is laughing.

Apart from the etiquette violations and laughter, all three players still have 18 holes in one of the most important events of the year. However, all three situations are slightly different as Sunday’s final round begins.
Morikawa played eight rounds in eight rounds. Even Johnny Miller’s 63-year-old won’t receive the U.S. Open Trophy on Sunday.

Hovland, on the other hand, is one of the favorites that have entered the 4th round. He is one of only four players at the moment in the following first round, and will start the final three rounds in the final three rounds as he fights for his first major victory.
When Scheffler returned five shots in four games, he thought he still had a shot, as he revealed on Saturday night.
“Overall, I still have a huge chance to get into tomorrow, so I’m going to play some balls, take a break and prepare for tomorrow’s grinding.”
