Newcastle boss recovers from pneumonia in hospital and will miss two games due to illness

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe thanked the fans and said he thanked the hospital staff after the club announced the 47-year-old had been diagnosed with pneumonia.
Howe, who led Newcastle to his first big trophy since winning the EFL Cup last month, missed the Hippies’ 4-1 Premier League home victory over Manchester United on Sunday and will be out of this week’s match against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
“Thank you so much for the message and warm blessings of everyone who is relevant to Newcastle United and the wider community,” Howe said in his first message since he was sick.
“They mean a lot to me and my family. I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who treated me.”
Eddie Howe’s Disease: “Missing So Much”
Assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones directed Newcastle to win the first league of the Red Devils at St James’ Park in the 1930/31 season.
Howe missed three days of training and pre-game press conference when Tindall said the former Bournemouth manager was “really bad” and then went to the hospital for a checkup on Friday.
“I just saw a message from Eddie congratulate us on our performance and our victory,” Newcastle said after he finished fourth on the table. “He was able to watch the game, and I’m sure it’s lifting his spirit.
“I worked with Eddie for 17 years and I don’t think he’s missed more than a day or two during that time.
“I got a text from Eddie before the game and he did what I thought was right about his trust. Today I sent him a few messages saying he missed him so much. He is one of the best managers out there.”
What is pneumonia?
Pneumonia is the name of lung inflammation, usually caused by infections such as influenza, cold or other viruses.
Most patients are treated with antibiotics and take two to four weeks to get better, rest and plenty of fluids in the guidance recommended for recovery.
“I’m so grateful for the professional care I’ve received and after a while of recovery, I look forward to coming back soon.”
Eddie Howe at the Hospital: Newcastle Support
Newcastle said they will “make further updates in due course”, adding: “The club continues to send their best wishes to Eddie and his family as they continue to recover.”
When he returns, Howe will likely be a strong position in Champions League qualifying for the second time in three seasons.
“He was very influential throughout the week and on the game day,” Winger Harvey Barnes said after two goals against Manchester United.
“We knew we didn’t have his job to do, and today we did it. We said before the game, that’s one of them and we wanted to smile on his face.”
“We hope he will be smooth soon and come back.”

Eddie Howe updates: “A tough week”
Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes hit Newcastle’s fourth game and he also paid tribute to Howe. “When we were on the stadium, we said we would play for him,” the Brazil international reported.
“He has always been a part of our success – he’s incredible for us. We missed him on the training ground and hope this victory will bring him a little happiness to him during this tough week.”
Defender Dan Burn said the job without Howe was “very weird”. The new Englander added: “To keep the assistants from training, we know there must have been some development.”
“We sent him the best wishes and I think it just shows that we have [that] Everyone meets his daily driving standards. We pushed each other and finished that game. ”
