Three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson is no stranger to bring some wingers with his gear while preparing for the Grand Slam. In 2005, in Baltusrol, which was a two-drive strategy, he gained a 64-degree wedge to fight fast vegetables with winged feet. We all remember the 47.5-inch driver who crashed into a “bomb” in 2020.
He also chose the “Advanced Obstacle” Callaway Epic’s fake irons to make up for Augusta’s national grinding and mowing techniques, which made it easier for him to shoot the ball high with a softer landing.
In short, Mickelson will do Anything Find a small advantage. But how can you blame him? He won the main championship.
During this week’s Liv Miami press conference, I asked Mickelson if he had any tweaks to Augusta.

Actually, there are two clubs here: 7-wood long 5-wood (mentioned by Mickelson Club) and 4-wood construction. The shorter build is perfect for what Phil discusses in the press – when Fairway Woods shortens, it allows players to keep more positions and control it like iron. Cutting down fairway forests is also an effective speed regulator for players.
Everything works here, and I think it’s ridiculous.
If the switch is made, the hybrid power will be replaced with a shorter 5-wood.
