Winning the open championship is one thing.
But, from where you grew up, you won less than four hours of driving race championship?
That was when Shane Lowry won the Claret jug of Royal Northern Ireland in 2019, a fantasy that could not be written, hundreds of miles north of his childhood in Offaly County.
In July, the Open will return to the wild and wild link, with Lowry defeating Tommy Fleetwood on the tour, who, as Lowry puts it, looks forward to soaking every moment of the week.
During Porthush’s third Open, Lowry sat down with senior golf writer Dylan Dethier to discuss his Irish roots, his indoctrination of the game and part of his most excited 2025 Open.
You can hear all the sounds in the video above. For a full version of Dethier’s interview with Lowry, check it out on Golf.com during Open Week.
