Homeless caddy sleeps in Washtenaw Country Club awning (1927)
During the early golf competition in Michigan, I encountered this interesting note from Michigan amateurs in 1927, the record was held at Washtenaw Country Club (now Washtenaw Golf Club).
Yesterday, homeless caddies were flooding around Washtenaw Country Club. According to club officials, visiting caddies found the new awnings to be explained around the excellent bet (SIC). One would climb to each side, turn over the pipe support, and have an excellent hammock.

It seems that Caddies had neither money nor status in 1927. In the Buster Keaton movie, images of a group of Caddies roll in the awning.
Michigan amateurs in 1927 won Bud Hewitt of Kalamazoo by Johnny Malloy of Grand Rapids. Malloy played 3-2.
