How to Clean Golf Balls in the Right Way

Forget your putters, drivers and irons, the most important library of equipment is your golf ball. And you need to keep them clean for the best results.

Golf is the only thing you need to use on every shot. With all the uses, the ball picks up a ton of dirt and dirt. While you are not allowed to pick up the balls on the fairway and clean them up, sometimes it is OK to clean them under the rules.

Cleaning the ball is essential to maximize performance. Given that, here is all you need to know how to clean your golf ball in the right way.

When can you clean your golf ball?

As mentioned before, no matter the process you use to clean the balls, you can’t clean them any time you want. Rules allow for weightlifting and cleaning golf balls.

The first time, arguably the most important thing is when you are on the green. As long as your ball is safe on the putter surface (rather than collar or rough), you can mark the ball and lift the ball. This is the best time to clean the golf ball you use in the hole. Just make sure that when you are done, put the ball directly back to the correct position in front of the ball mark. Cleaning the ball before placing it is particularly important, as just a little mud can have a huge impact on your putter.

The second example of how you can clean your golf ball on the route is between holes. Once the last push rod falls on any hole, clean it as much as possible before opening the next hole. Even better, you can switch to a new original golf ball between holes. And, unless there is a ball local rule (as in Pro Events), the new ball doesn’t have to be the same type you used in that round before. It can be any brand or modeling you like.

How to Clean Golf in a Course

The traditional way to clean a golf ball during the round is to use a golf washing machine. Most courses are set up on T-shirts to play. Simply place the ball in the slot and use the handle to move the washer up and down to clean the ball.

Inside the ball machine, the combination of rigid brushes, water and cleaning fluid on the ball is fine. After a few plunges, remove the ball, dry it, and then you’re ready to go.

If you don’t like playing on green or for some reason, there’s another option. Secure a golf towel to the bag (you don’t mind the stained towel) and add water to suppress part of the towel. Then, whenever you need to clean the balls, just wipe in the wet part of the towel to remove dirt and mud, and then wipe with the dry part of the towel.

The best way to clean the ball at home

Unlike courses, there are no regulations for cleaning golf at home. By far, the best method is also the easiest: a bucket of hot soapy water. As long as the soap is not soaked, this method will allow you to quickly clean all golf balls at the same time.

Traditional ways to clean golf balls at home. The less traditional methods include using a dishwasher, nail polish remover for bad stains or balls made with sharp marks or washing machines.

If using the washing machine method, it is best to put the ball in a mesh bag and then put the ball in a pillowcase before putting it in the machine. This should help prevent damage to the ball and washing machine, but it is still a risk. If you use a bucket, you won’t damage expensive appliances.
