So many wedge options. Which one is right for you?
Golfer
You run into a good drive that puts yourself in the middle of the fairway 90 yards away. And then…you are short. Or very long. Or you’re losing weight. Or chop. Suddenly, your birdie look becomes a par scramble…or worse.
Does it sound familiar?

The truth is, most golfers suffer more strokes within 100 yards than anywhere else. That’s not because your swing breaks. This is because your scoring club is not helpful to you. Whether it’s a gap gap, a bounce error or you only have the wrong lens tool, your wedges may stop you.
That’s where the proper wedge fittings are.
The wedge is a system, not just a random attic in a bag
Here’s the deal: fewer wedges in the bag means you’re forced into a more uncomfortable swing. Think of the half-wing gap wedge from 72 yards. Think about the 54° sand wedges that you have to have feathers 40 yards, and hope they check. For most of us, this is not altitude golf.
However, when your wedges are properly spaced (for example, a 4-to-5 degree gap between each), you get a full wave option that matches the numbers. You stop guessing. You start to trust. You end up hitting it more often.
A solid wedge setting might look like this:
– 43-46° PW
– 48-52° gap wedge
– 54-56° sand wedge
– 58-62° wedge
This covers a lot of ground, gives you more freedom to swing and provides you with dedicated tools for different lies, turf and lenses around green. All of this is suitable for covering the gaps you need to cover.

Why fitting a wedge is actually important
The wedge is more than just checking the loft. It’s about matching bounces and running in how you deliver the club. Are you an excavator or a sweeper? Will you play with soft turf or solid fast fairways? Do you often open your face or hit squares?
At True Spec, they will dig into all of this. You can test different heads, lofts, bounces and grinds on the boot monitor, while the fitter builds a wedge-shaped system that covers your distance and works with your swing tendencies. It’s like a blueprint printing your short game settings, so when you’re 85 yards you don’t have to guess. You just need to pull out the right club and perform the swing of your trust.

Your game can’t afford it and is not suitable
If you take your score down seriously, stop treating the wedge like you did after the fact. These clubs live in the scoring zone, which is part of making birdies and avoiding large numbers of games. Proper wedge setting is more than just lofts and bounces – it has to do with confidence. It’s about stepping into every shot within 100 yards and knowing that you have the right tools in your hand without having to manipulate the swing.
This month, it’s getting healthy. Create a system. And give yourself all the chances, turn the approach shot into a birdie putt, and save it in a short game.
Your scoring club should be your most powerful weapon. Let the real specs help you bring them there. Book your accessories, build a system and have your rating zone.
