Sunderland was preparing for life in the Premier League, and they were hit this week with the upcoming news reports of Jobe Bellingham, but the Black Cats acted quickly and had found Premier League talent to replace him.

Bellingham has been the fresh air of Black Cats since arriving at Light Stadium in July 2023. Although the midfielder didn’t score more than the 2023/24 season in the 2024/25 season, his overall performance was very stable and helped Sunderland play the biggest league in football.

So when the Black Cats struggled to sell Bellingham to Dortmund, the club’s hierarchy was already thinking about players when it came to changing him. According to TeamTalk, Sunderland is interested in signing Tommy Doyle from Wolves this summer.

The report notes that the Black Cats hope to strengthen the team’s spine as they prepare for life in the top flight, and Doyle is designated as a potential arrival. Sunderland tried to sign the 23-year-old in the January transfer window but eventually failed.

Now they want to try again, but this time it is permanent, as Wolf tells Doyle to tell him he is free to leave the club. The midfielder lost favor under Vitor Pereira and failed to beat five of the last nine Premier League matches.

The Wolves threw £3 million on Doyle’s head, but the Black Cats weren’t the only team chasing the City Man of the Forefathers as Sheffield United beat Sheffield United in the playoff final, and they were also interested in the trade and Wrexham and Wrexham who played in season two next season.
