Teofimo Lopez posted on X today asking his promoter at Top Rank about his “buyout” The numbers are so he can get out of the remainder of his contract.
Why is Lopez suddenly asking his promoter for a buyout number? He could see free agent Devin Haney play on BLK Prime on March 25 and potentially make a lot of money. Teo might want to get involved.
Teofimo's top exit?
As a free agent, Lopez could be snapped up by Eddie Hearn's match room, or he could choose to follow Haney's strategy and retain that status.
WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 13 KOs) seems to believe that he will face bigger fights once he leaves the top rankings, but it is doubtful whether that will happen. Teo's losses to George Kambosos Jr. and wins over Jermaine Ortiz and Xander Martin showed the limitations of his boxing abilities.
How come Lopez doesn’t know his buyout number? His manager should be able to provide him with this information. Top Rank has done the man's job with Teofimo throughout his career. It's not their fault that he's looked so bad since his career win over Vasily Lomachenko in 2020.
Teofimo is currently scheduled to face former IBF light welterweight champion Subril Matias on March 15 in a non-PPV event on ESPN. Lopez will most likely lose this fight because he looked terrible against Jermaine, Sandel, and Steve Cratchit.
Hey, @trboxing What is my buyout? Just a question 🧐 Also, I would respect it if you replied here instead of around the corner! Thank you and have a happy first Sunday of the new year☀️! #boxing
