The Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 6-1 in the Western Conference Finals at Rogers Place on Sunday (May 25), leading 2-1 in a seventh of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoff series.
Zach Hyman and Connor McDavid scored twice for the Oilers, who also scored goals from defensive players Evan Bouchard and John Klingberg. Dallas forward Jason Robertson scored his team’s only goal.

Stars beat Edmonton 34-24. Oiler Netminder Stuart Skinner made 33 saves while Dallas goalkeeper Jake Oettinger paused 18 shots.
Edmonton led 2-0 after the first phase and 3-1 to 40 minutes. After six straight comeback wins earlier in the playoffs set an NHL record, the Oilers haven’t fallen behind at any point in their latest win.
The stars are finally delivered
The narrative of this playoff in the oil country is that the Oilers have done so far because of their deep participants, not their stars. If they end up winning the Stanley Cup, at some point their big guns, Leon Draisaitl, Hyman and McDavid, need to start scoring more.
On Sunday, Heyman and McDavid did it, each producing their first multi-goal game in the 2025 NHL playoffs. The team scored four times in Game 4, which was as many as Edmonton’s previous 12 games.
Hyman and McDavid are now scoring five goals in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs, ranking third in the Oilers along with Connor Brown, Corey Perry and Nugent-Hopkins. Bouchard and Draisaitl shared the team’s lead with six goals respectively.
Draisaitl failed to register on the goal after another relatively quiet match on Sunday. The German Center has not scored in Edmonton’s last four wins.
Oilers take advantage of opportunities
Considering they surpassed Dallas, it seems ridiculous, suggesting that the Oilers are lucky to win the third game. But if the oilers aren’t lucky, they’re at least opportunistic on Sunday.
Dallas dominated the second stage, beating the Oilers 21-7 and eventually landed on the board at 15:35, when Robertson scored to reduce Edmonton’s lead to 2-1. Then, the stars were almost close to the game and were only rejected by Skinner. Moments later, McDavid won the two-goal advantage for the Oilers, with 19 seconds left in the second phase.

McDavid’s goal took the momentum from the stars, and although McDavid’s goal wasn’t as far away on the scoreboard as it was at the end of the time than it was at the beginning, how important McDavid’s goal was.
To their credit, they did not give up. In fact, when Dallas maintains pressure to start the third phase, it is actually the opposite. But then a special sequence appears that perfectly summarizes the game:
Dallas flocked to Skinner and had a few incredible chances to score, but the puck was somehow outside and ended up being gathered by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. The Oilers then stepped forward into the dangerous area and cleaned up Spring Hyman with incredible stretching pressure, who undoubtedly buried the hockey behind Oettinger and led Edmonton to a 4-1 lead at 3:25 in the third stage.
Hyman’s target turned out to be the defender. Dallas only made two shots for the rest of the game, while Edmonton kept pouring into the game, making two more attempts before the final horn.
According to natural statistics skills, the high-risk opportunity in the game is 14-11 in Dallas. The difference is that the Oiler buried every opportunity, and Skinner took at least a few sure goals from the stars.
Not all good news
The Oilers have led 10-2 in the last twelve games since trailing the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 in the first round. They are the hottest team in hockey, with only two wins with a second straight trip to the Stanley Cup final and will return to home ice for a chance to get into a tough spot in the Western Conference final when they will host Game 4 in Dallas on Tuesday (May 27).
But there was a potential reason Sunday when Brown left the game and wasn’t back after being hit by star defenseman Alex Petrovic late in the second phase. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch did not provide the latest news about Brown after the game, which inspired speculation about availability on Tuesday and beyond.
Brown has been a key player for the Oilers in the 2025 playoffs, skating with Evander Kane and Adam Henrique in the third line in Edmonton. The 28-year-old right wing had eight points, three points, and led all the Oilers with ice hockey time on the ice in the playoffs.
If Brown is eliminated in Game 4. Or, if defenseman Mattias Ekholm is ready to return after being partially injured since March, Knoblauch has the option to dress up 11 forwards and seven Blueliners to help get Ekholm back on action.
Edmonton won eight straight games, including six on home ice and hopes to continue the streak on Tuesday night. The hockey will land shortly after 6 p.m.
