During the 32 years of Ottawa Senator Hockey, many outstanding players have brought hockey to the club. You can easily put all the best players together and create a Uber team that looks great on paper.
In fact, a team of only 20 players with offensive skills may not be as successful as you think. That’s why I’m building an Ottawa alumni team, and I believe he can compete for the Stanley Cup.

Remember, this team is not necessarily composed of the best players in Senator’s history. They are based on the cohesion in the lineup in their position. This means that players have a place in this team based on their gestures, positions and other intangible assets. I think this is the most balanced lineup SENS could have provided.
forward
With the forwards of this team, it is important to note that they are here because of their talent, and their roles and positions. So if you see a player that should be here, it might be because they are not playing the right position or fitting in a particular role.
Dany Heatley-Jason Spezza-Daniel Alfredsson
The first line of the team was an obvious choice. The “pizza” line or the “cash” line was crucial to success in the mid-2000s. When other players struggle, they are the ideal players to set off their offensive pace and take on the burden.

Dany Heatley remains the best pure scorer ever for the franchise. His back-to-back 50-goal season in 2005-06 and 2006-07 remained the only season for the Senators to score 50 points. In addition to his team record in one season, he also maintained the team’s points record. His appearance as the top scoring winger will be the key to the team’s goal score.
There is nothing I can say about Daniel Alfredsson. When you think of the Senate, he is the face of the franchise and the player you think of. His game in Ottawa in the last 20 seasons is simply incredible. The team leader for goals, scoring and assists is the captain of this proposed team and the easiest option.
Jason Spezza is the ideal gaming hub. As part of this amazing team, the anchor of this line will be even more successful. He is the ideal frontline center in any situation. The center is key to any good frontline, and Spezza is key to this offense.
Marian Hossa-Alexei Yashin-Mark Stone
The second row must be made up of a series of players who can contribute on the offense but can also play some good defensive hockey from time to time. That’s why this line combines the most talented player ever, SENS, and is arguably the most comprehensive player in the team’s history.

Marian Hossa was offensive Dynamo during her relatively short term as a Senator. It is not common, but in the 2002-03 season, Hosa set a franchise record for goals. His 45-year-old was a record until he was surpassed by Heatley in 2006. Hossa will be the scoring winger, which will provide balanced team depth scores for the second line.
Say your hopes for Alexei Yashin, but he was the face of the franchise until Daniel Alfredsson established himself. The talent he has in hockey is incredible, his lack of effort will be overshadowed by his two wingers, both of whom can and will take the burden. Mark Stone is the answer to these two main offensive players. Stone is one of the best two-way players ever to wear a Senator jersey. His Selke-class defensive drama balances offensive Hosa and Yashin. Stone wouldn’t be frustrated with the hockey, either, as he was a major contributor to the offensive offense in Ottawa.
Martin Havlat-JG Pageau-Mike Hoffman
This is the third line that is the hardest to build. The third line needs to be able to succeed, but it can also play defensive games and win battles that cannot be carried out on other lines. That’s why I believe I created the ultimate third line for Sens alumni who can fulfill this role.
Martin Havlat’s tenure in Ottawa is often forgotten. As a Senator, he is an excellent two-way player and is not afraid of his body. He is perfect for teammates who can keep the line in roots but also contribute with an offensive attitude. Havlat is perfectly placed here due to his character. He doesn’t have pure offensive ability to make the top six, but can play in the third line.
Including Jean-Gabriel Pageau is the toughest decision I have to make in this roster. I almost put Kyle Turris in his place, but kept him because of his role. Pageau is suitable for the more defensive role of the defensive opposition. His offense isn’t his strongest asset (although he scored a career-high 26 goals in 2019-20). Having him in the role of third-tier center will allow him to play his own game while playing against experts.
Mike Hoffman, like Yashin, has some controversy over him. Similarly, he has too much talent to leave the team. He is a four-time goal scorer with the Senator and he is not afraid to fight for the hockey in the corner. He provides the footage needed when this line requires a goal.
Shawn McEachern-Mike Fisher-Chris Neil
The fourth line of the team is the soul, the role that every excellent team needs. From some real fan favorites over the years, it’s assumed that this line won’t get much ice time, but when they shoot, they’ll know they’re there.

Shawn McEachern was one of the players who were overlooked from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s. (Excerpt from “McEachern Signs $9 million contract”, Earth and MailMarch 29, 2000) Although he is the scoring producer of the era he has participated in, I believe this team, he is best suited to play the next six roles with fewer minutes. His skill in hockey is a benefit, and he is the most talented player on this line.
Mike Fisher is the typical bottom six-point center. I almost got him into the third line, but his defense and confrontation abilities were more useful in the fourth line. His career is 50.7 percent opposite (tracked since the 2007-08 season only), and his resilience is perfect for limited roles.
Chris Neil is the final fourth inning. The franchise’s free throw time and third place in the game are perfect for his role. He can turn on ice for his teammates while controlling his opponents. He is a strong figure on the team and despite the changing ways of the National Hockey League, each team needs to use some muscle.
Defensive
Here, choosing this team will become very difficult. I prioritize each defender and his talent. Therefore, some well-known people may be missed here. The left defender is on the left and the right defender is on the right. I still believe this is the most solid roster for Sens alumni.
Zdeno Chara-Erik Karlsson
Zdeno Chara is often forgotten when discussing senators and can easily become the top two in the backend. You want him to join this team because of his slap, his defense or physical play.
Erik Karlsson is the best defender to play for the organization. It would be a criminal offense to not have him on this lineup. The two-time Norris trophy winner will be the first pair of kings who can control the game through his vision and hockey skills while recovering from the ultimate mistake.
The ultimate defender. This is not only the dream of SENS alumni, but the dream of any player in NHL history. Chara’s body defense and bubbled shots are the perfect addition to Karlsson’s incredible hockey skills and playing abilities. Put the two together, as your top pairing is almost guaranteed to be successful. This will be one of the best pairings in hockey history. Chara left-handed and Karlsson are right-handed and does help so they don’t have to play with their sidekicks.
Wade Redden-Joe Corvo
Joe Corvo’s tenure as a senator was short, but very memorable. Like Redden, he is a more offensive defender, but has the ability to do both. He didn’t spend much time and only appeared in 152 games in two and a half seasons in Ottawa. However, he scored 74 points in his final year in Ottawa and scored 62.5% of Corsi.
Wade Redden retreated in his last years in Ottawa, but people still cannot deny his influence on the senses. He has been a big part of the team’s defensive core for years. He is the premier offensive guard in the NHL and his position will be welcomed by the second pair of men.
Pairing Redden and Corvo together would be a great second pair. Obviously, the biggest weakness of this pairing is structurally reasonable defense. However, when combined with a bottom six forward, this peeling has less defense than excellent defense and uses its puck skills to lead the pace of the game.
Chris Phillips Jason York
Chris Phillips’ figures retired after a fantastic career in Ottawa, and he was the host of the third pairing. His offense is obviously a missing big event, but it’s not a big deal in the game of defensive shutdown roles. Although his defense is the main reason why he is here, his leadership is equally important.
Jason York is an underrated member of Ottawa alumni. He was a senator from 1995-96 to 2000-01 and his purpose was very good. While working with the team, he has built his career highest in goals, assists and points. He is the ideal companion to play with Phillips. In a limited number of minutes, York will be allowed to play his game and chips offensively.
Putting Phillips and York together would be a great two-thirds as it brings balance to the team. Although lacking alone, they can work together to form an effective antibalance that can play hard minutes when you need to stop the momentum and regain control of the game.
goalkeeper
Many goalkeepers have played in Ottawa over the years. A few goalkeepers have had a significant impact. That’s why it’s hard for me to choose the goalkeeper of this team.
Craig Anderson
Craig Anderson is the greatest goalkeeper in Senator’s history. He has undoubtedly cemented his position in this team. As a Senator, he earned 200 careers while earning a savings percentage of .914.
With the success of the playoffs, his chances of gaining a place in this team will only increase. Of all the goalkeepers who play for the organization, Anderson is the one I want to lead this team.
Patrick Lalime
Patrick Lalime was the first great goalkeeper to play for the Senators and a great option to support Anderson. He is the second win, and for those who have played at least 55 games, he is the first to score against goals. Although he did not end his term in Ottawa, he still has a place in franchise history. He is best suited to play 20-25 games per season, and will be injured if it is injured.
Healthy scratches
I added three players to this roster who have the talent to be the team but have not advanced. I added Marc Method and Kyle Turris to the roster, but not on the lines. Methodt didn’t become the team for a number of reasons, including his left-side defensive player position among the teams piled up on the left. Methot is very talented and if he is the right defender, he will play in the game. For Turris, he is talented enough to get playing time, but only a third-tier center. He is not suitable for playing this role and will only be in the top six. Spezza and Yashin were both beaten by him in this regard.
Overall, there may be some players here that may be more talented. But I stick to the players I choose and I believe it is the best team of general senators that can be built.
