Celtic stars for sale by Lennon are now worth 259%

Celtic chose to cash out one of their star players in the recent January transfer window when Rennes signed Kyogo Furuhashi to the Scottish Giants.

Japan International completed a £10 million relocation before the second half of the season after returning to 85 goals in 165 matches in all matches of the Scottish Premier League champions.

The Japanese scorer scored an astonishing 34 goals in the sport of Ange Postecoglou on 2022/23, becoming the second big name to continue moving from the club this semester.

Danish midfielder Matt O’Riley completed a move to Brighton and Brighton & Hove Albion last summer after returning 18 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League last season.

The Celtic has a long history in the development and sales of players, like Kyogo and O’Riley, if they continue to improve and attract attention elsewhere, there may be more examples from the current team.

Celtic’s Maximum Sales

O’Riley became the most expensive player in Scottish football history when Brighton paid more than £25m last summer to sign the British-born attacking midfielder.

This beat the previous record, which was £25 million moved to Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023, while Kieran Tierney moved to Arsenal before the 2019/20 campaign.

O’Riley’s outstanding performance on the Celtic field during Glasgow won him the Premier League, scoring a goal in 12 matches for Brighton in the UK’s top matches so far.

At this moment, with the solitary goal in the Premier League returning, it seems that basketball seems to have won the jackpot by earning him a record fee.

Six years later, the Celtics will now sign him for £0 in the summer when his contract with Arsenal expires, as they have agreed to a contract deal with the defender.

However, one of the reasons the basketball team was able to secure this masterclass was because the guards missed 39 games due to injuries since the start of last season.

Last semester, Tierney managed zero goals and two assists in 20 Laliga games on loan at Real Sociedad and has not participated in any goals in four Premier League outings in Arsenal in the current campaign.

This shows that the Celtics landed him £25m in 2019 as he continued to move forward from Parkhead, who has been struggling for him, and now they have a chance to see if he can arrive as a free transfer next season and whether he can restart his career in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Giants used to sell the defender for less than half of Tierney, but now he is better than Scotland International and deserves more.

Celtics sold Jeremiah Fripen

Right back Jeremie Frimpong signed from Manchester City in early 2021 for only £350,000 and was sold to Bayer Leverkusen, Germany, reportedly up to £11.5 million.

Neil Lennon, then manager, said the opportunity to convince the Dutch to refuse to join a large European clothing was “very difficult”, and the club tried to provide him with a new contract to stay in Parkhead to no avail.

Ultimately, the Celtics and Lennon decided to cash in with Frimpong midway through the 2020/21 campaign and charged a considerable £11.5 million fee, even if that was much less than Tierney they had 18 months ago.

The value of the Dutch international team has soared since moving to Germany, currently worth £41.3 million – per transfer sign – which is a 259% increase from the £11.5 million the Celtics receive in 2021.

As you can see in the table above, Frimpong’s value soared throughout his time with Leverkusen, that he is now worth a lot more than Transfermarkt’s £8.2m Tierney.

His offensive contribution from the German defender position also shows that he is better than the Scottish defender, as the former Celtic scored 28 goals and 39 assists in the 178-appeared club, including 14 goals and 10 assists last semester.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, Tierney has only scored two goals in the past 18 months at Real Sociedad and Arsenal’s league level, but failed to score.

As a result, Frimpong has developed into a better player than Tierney, thanks to his far exceeding market value and higher output proof in the last third of the court, and the Celtics may judge that they only received a £11.5 million signature from Leverkusen in 2021.

Hopefully, though, Tierney will return to Parkhead next season and return to his best Brendan Rodgers in the Premier League to lift more silverware in Glasgow.
