Ryan French, also known as Monday Q Message, has seen a lot of crazy stories in his time and heard a lot of crazy stories that sparkle.
The French have seen and heard everything about erasing their own scores from a player and moved to the Q-School “Ball Dropper” story on the cut line.
The Frenchman joins the latest episode of the Golf Suppar podcast and shares some of the craziest stories he covers, with “Ball Drops” bringing the cake.
In 2022, Matt Moroz came under scrutiny after playing partners, Andrew Ni and Grant Haefner, noting some suspicious behavior and some incidents, in which Moroz was getting off the line, but found the ball on a good spot. This led Nebraska PGA officials to keep an eye on the group in the final round.
On the fifth hole, Moroz once again got a “casual” break. Moroz hit the fifth hole of 4 shots, his tee shot down from the left and then made a thin blade method, which his game partner thought would be green. A large mound is in front of the green, which means the player cannot see the place where the ball will be before grabbing it. Moroz and his caddies lead in NI and Haefner. When Ni and Haefner arrived in the green, Moroz celebrated and claimed his second shot had entered the hole.
“Maybe it rebounded from the turkey,” Moroz said.
“Honestly, I think he might have chosen the site because of his blind shooting,” the Frenchman told Knost and Stoltz.
“The other two guys hit the driver. He hit Sanmu Wood so he would be hit first and could cross the hill first.”
After two holes, things became even more suspicious. There was trouble on both sides of the seventh hole, where the game attracted an observer to help the player find the willful T-shirt.
Moroz hit his tee into the correct free throw area. The discoverer placed a dangerous flag on the ground and crossed the fairway, helping to find the free throw area on the left to find his ball.
Everyone except Moroz and his caddies helped find Ni’s ball. When the group reached the green, they saw Moroz’s ball on the edge, only 15 feet. Moroz claimed he found his ball outside the penalty area and hit his second.
Moroz was hit in the penalty area on the seventh hole after officials approached him with the ball.
