If you find yourself struggling in the game that you can get into the top of the swing and feel like the club will fly out of your hand, we’re here to tell you that in this case, this might actually be an arrow, not an archer.
In this week’s golf episode, golf-proud Eric Gibson and Greg Cavill joined the show to tell the story of co-hosts Kris McCormack and Wadeh Maroun, the most common misconceptions about the grip.
According to Gibson, it is simpler than people expected.
“The most common ‘aha moments we hear are when someone feels exhausted and holds each other side by side,” Gibson said. “It’s the psychological aspect of the AHA moment that gives them confidence in their choices.”
Gibson said Cavill’s engineering team has done a lot of research to support the claim that fresh grips can increase the ball speed by 2 mph, but he acknowledges that most consumers won’t see the benefit of such a small value.
What they discovered was that most golfers finally re-kidnapping the club due to their shabby experience, thus changing the handshake.
“That was just a moment of time, but we were all in that position,” he said. “And you knew very well that whether you were standing on a golf ball again, whether it was the same club or another, you were worried that the kind of grip you held in your hands would slip. So that’s the challenge of this brand and the category.”

Gibson and Cavill said one in five players around the world have never bought a new grip before. Therefore, they think their work in golf pride tries to educate these players about why new grips will benefit and strive to make them change the grip before they engage in negative events as described above.
“You are trying to really put fresh grip in the hands of consumers and give them a moment,” Gibson said. “Our data is important even before we have more and more data.”
