Andre Onana quickly responded to Nemanja Matic’s Jibe, “one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history”, noting that the Lyon midfielder lacked success during Old Trafford.
The bank broke out earlier this afternoon when he was asked to respond to Onana’s remarks on Sunday, saying United were “better” than Lyon before tomorrow night’s Europa League quarter-finals, the first leg between France.

A cruel response to Onana
Matic [proof] to this end.
“I respect everyone, but to say that, you need to give an answer.
“If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history, you need to take care of your actions.
“If David de Gea or Peter Schmeichel or [Edwin] Van der Sar says I’ll ask myself [anything]. ”
The offer immediately made headlines, and Onana spent very little time responding. The Cameroonian posted on X before Manchester United flew to France, and the Cameroonian wrote: “I will never disrespect another club. We know tomorrow will be a tough game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing for the show to make our fans proud.”

Matic fails to win trophy at United
Matic ended his sophomore match in 2022 with a five-year spell but failed to win the trophy, prompting Onana to add: “At least I’ve already raised the trophy with the greatest club in the world. Some people can’t say the same thing.”
Onana won the FA Cup with Manchester United in 2024 after signing £43.8 million from Ajax 12 months ago.
The Cameroonians failed to convince at Old Trafford and made several high-profile mistakes.
Still, his mood was optimistic when he spoke to reporters after Sunday’s ruthless attraction with Manchester City.
What did Onana say?
“We all know the importance of this game, so we’re going there with a win-win mentality,” Onana said.
“It’s not our best season, but we still have a lot of wins, so we’re going to keep moving forward.
“It’s a really good team; we know some of these teams, but I don’t think we have to focus on them. It’s more about us, what we’re going to do.”
He added: “I think we’re better than them, we just have to go there and show who we are.
“If we go there with a winning mindset, we focus, we stay tight and follow the game plan, we will win the game.
“Of course, it’s not easy, but I think we’re better than them.”
