What do Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Davis and Doug Ghim have in common? All of these are players on PGA tours, initially designed for slow speed masters!
An interesting phenomenon happened to the tour this season, with Titleist’s GT1 Fairway Wood having climbed into the bags of Titleist staff and non-contract players. Actually, about 30% of Titleist Fairway Wood users are now playing the GT1 model.
In the past, the “1” profile in Titleist’s Metalwood lineup has been retained for slow swings and master tapes, but recently better players have attracted the GT1, especially in Fairway Woods (in a standard weight configuration) to take advantage of high-point start and low-wing profiles.
Now, the company is retailing the travel specification model for the profile with the GT1 3 tour Fairway Wood.
While the standard GT1 fairway wood (the largest profile in the GT Fairways family) offers a 15-degree loft, the GT1 3tour offers a half-degree stronger loft at 14.5˚, allowing players to drop it all down to 13.75˚ with SureFit Sleeve. It also has a lower CG to help stronger players produce flatter ball flights, but still exploits a wide and shallow footprint.
“Travel feedback is very valuable, so we have our players involved in testing all products, even those that may take into account different players,” said JJ Van Wezenbeeck, senior director of promotions at Titleist club, in a press release. “During the GT1 fairway test, we found that some Tour players really like shaping and facial height, but we know that many of them need less lofts and lower CGs to make more powerful flights.

“Tom Bennett [a product manager in Titleist’s metalwood R&D department] The R&D team was able to give us a product in the GT1 3Tour, which gave us all the benefits of GT1 shaping while lowering the rotation to the best window for these players. Since the tour, we’ve seen some intense adoptions for players who prefer light colors, easy-to-issue designs but require less spin. ”
The quick adoption of the GT1 3tour on the PGA Tour illustrates the trend of players choosing more tolerant profiles in the woods, as long as they can narrow the rotation to the right level. By using the shallow profile and low CG on the crown using Titleist’s new proprietary matrix polymer (PMP) , the GT1 3tour fits the bill.
If players want more spins or higher starts from the GT1 3tour, it also has adjustable forward and tail weights to change the CG. Although the standard GT1 is heavier, the standard position of the 3 tour is heavier in the front. Additionally, there will be no ultra-lightweight configuration available as the stock GT1 models.

It will be retail $399 It has four featured shaft products: X Denali Red, Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Blue, Project X Hzrdus Black 5th Gen and Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Black. The standard weight configuration will have 11 grams flat weight and the rear will have 3 grams flat weight.
The standard length is 43 inches, the standard loft is 14.5˚ and the head size is 180 cc.
