Tottenham Hotspurs are interested in signing Atlanta defender Isak Hien after Cristian Romero exits.
Romero was the best defender for the Lilywhites, perfectly fit and running at the time. However, he missed a lot of moves this season due to the combination of hamstrings and limb injuries. The Argentine hopes to leave the Spurs as he hopes to face new challenges, and the North London club has failed to satisfy his lofty ambitions.
Atletico Madrid and Aston Villa circled the 26-year-old’s signature and if Romero leaves, Tottenham reportedly turned his eyes to Atalanta’s Isak hien to replace him.
Hien, 26, moved to Atalanta from Hellas Verona in January 2024 and played a key role in last season’s Europa League victory. He played a full 90 minutes in the Europa League final, helping Gian Piero Gasperini’s side beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in May. The Swedes has grown into a reliable defender in Serie A, and his performance caught the attention of the Spurs in front of the summer transfer window.
Tottenham wants Atlanta defender Isaac Sheen
This season’s Lilies will be defending the entire place. Many things are attributed to the injury crisis, forcing Angel Postecoglou to rely on temporary options.
Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies all spent several months off the court, and Radu Dragusin was left out for the rest of the ACL breakdown. Additionally, signing in January Kevin Danso is currently taking care of hamstring problems. The central defender is the club’s top priority as Romero is associated with the exit with Davies at the end of the season.
Hien did a great job of grabbing Tottenham’s attention for Atalanta. The Swedish international may also test in the Premier League when he proves himself 26 after Serie A, but his age is also appropriate, and while the move towards the Spurs may not be a step from Atlanta, it will certainly allow him to rub shoulders with the best players in the Premier League.
Atlanta will host Hien’s offer at this stage. So all Tottenham can do is at least continue to monitor the defenders until the end of the season and then decide whether to bid for Hien.
