TY Emberson of Oilers may be looking outside for the 2025-26 season – Hockey Writer – Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are currently focused on winning their first Stanley Cup title since 1990, but when the offseason arrives, free agents will appear and they will have to move the gears to the 2025-26 season and try to ensure they compete for the championship again. Although their main focus is to apply Evan Bouchard to a long-term extension, they may have to look at ways to change the depth of the defense. They all have a lot of NHL ready defenders who don’t play in every game, including Ty Emberson, who may find themselves outside next season.

Emberson, 25, was bought last season by the San Jose Sharks Oilers in exchange for draft picks and Cody Ceci. For the oilers, it was more like hat casualties as they tried to make room to sign other players, but Emerson was a reliable pickup and his defensive analysis was thrilled in a short time despite not much experience at the NHL level. This season, Emberson scored 2 goals and added 13 points of 13 assists in 76 games, with an average of 0.17 points. He only had 106 games between the Sharks and the Oilers, with a total of 23 points. He won the NHL salary with a strong defensive style, which is what Oilers fans will continue to move forward in the season. Unfortunately, he may find himself outside next season.

Emerson might be a strange person

Emberson is a solid defender and is likely the player most teams in the NHL will like every night. Unfortunately for him, the oilman’s depth on the blue line is the strongest in a long time. If Klinberg chooses to test the open market and sign elsewhere, he may be able to play the seventh defender role next season, but even then the oilers won’t have a place for him, especially if Schel continues to stabilize their depth and with Nurse Darnell.

This could spark trade rumors during the offseason, especially if the Oilers hope to re-sign Klinberg. Emberson is a young defender with a lot of potential and he can deliver reliable returns if they measure their trade interest in him. Hopefully he’s willing to play in-depth roles, considering he’s just signed a postponement to keep the oily range, but if that’s not the case, he’ll be an exciting addition to any team that hopes to bring him in. There is no reason to believe Emberson won’t be willing to play a deep role, but the Oiler will have to plan anything.

The Oilers may want to uninstall one of Mattias Ekholm or Brett Kulak and reserve on one of Emberson’s young defenders, but Time will say what ends up happening in the roster this summer. If they end up winning the championship, I believe they don’t want to change their roster too much, but with the demand for upcoming re-signation of superstar forward Connor McDavid, there may be some tough choices that must be made.
