USGA offers Saturday refunds

With 36 holes left at the 2025 U.S. Open, Saturday’s conditions will be significantly different from the previous two rounds as Oakmont endured a shower overnight on Friday, and there may be more.

The course performed stably in the matches Thursday and Friday, quickly torturing the world’s top players. This year’s Our Open is seven years away from seven strokes, the U.S. Open is the highest Open in nearly 20 years and is one higher than the last championship game in the 2016 Tournament here.

An inch of rain fell on Friday overnight in Oakmont, and while this could alleviate the ruthless cruelty of the class, live audiences could make decisions.

On Saturday morning, USGA issued the following statement:

Oakmont Country Club’s ground was very wet due to heavy rain overnight, coupled with the historical rainfall experienced in the weeks that entered the championship, entering the third round of the 125th U.S. Open Championship.

Although the golf course is very good and the game is still ready, some areas outside the ropes are very saturated. Some viewing areas for entering the course throughout the day will be restricted out of caution and ensuring the safety of all viewers.

Please note that there is a possibility of additional rainfall in today’s forecasts and conditions may continue to develop throughout the day. We will continue to monitor the weather and make any further updates as needed.

Importantly – we want all ticket holders to know these conditions before they arrive on site. If they choose not to participate in this case, a full refund will be provided for their Saturday ticket.

Admission and hotel facilities will be open at 8 a.m. this morning. For those who join us, we recommend wearing the right footwear and moving on the ground with caution.

As stated in the statement above, viewers who choose not to participate in the Saturday round will receive a full refund to cover their ticket costs. But for those who do make a trek, Saturday’s third round looks a bit of a hurdle. More rainfall could threaten Oakmont throughout the weekend, according to weekend weather forecasts by Thor’s guard meteorologists Will Kellum and Jake Swick.

“This morning, full cloud coverage will produce other showers, especially between 7 and 10 ET, with some embedded rumbles not without problems,” the forecast said. “The current models indicate that current showers and some thunderstorms may develop throughout the afternoon due to the low pressure areas of the Ohio Valley. Hopefully we can get into some gaps on radar this afternoon, but like yesterday, unfortunately today’s rain will be lower again, but in Sunday’s rainstorms, the rain season is almost the same every day, but in the afternoon time, there is another drop in rainfall. The 70s gentle winds sometimes exceed 10 mph, especially later in the day.”
