Worse than Bill: The Worst Ranger Manager of All Time

The Glasgow Rangers are now looking for their fourth permanent manager since the sack of Philippe Clement in November 2021.

His sack is imminent, especially after a few weeks ago when he beat Queens Park’s Scottish Cup.

Patrick Stewart and the rest of the board were the final straws 2-0 loss to St Mirren, whose sack was announced later that weekend.

During the 2020/21 campaign, Steven Gerrard was Steven Gerrard, the last manager to start and end the season, demonstrating how bad the club has been running lately .

What’s next for Ibrox? Appointing a new permanent manager must be correct, otherwise the light blue will increasingly lag behind the Celtics.

Since 1872, Ibrox has had many excellent managers who have won league titles and domestic cups, and Willie Waddell even won the European Cup in 1972.

However, some managers are not doing enough. So we looked at the five worst managers in club history.

David White

November 1967 – November 1969

David White became the fourth permanent manager in club history when he took over from Scot Symon in November 1967.

Symon won 15 major honors in his 13 years in charge of Gers, including six league titles, but wrote on the wall after defeating the Berwick Rangers against the Scottish Cup in January 1967 superior.

White took over November and spent more than two years at Ibrox. Although he lost only 22 of the club’s 114 games, he was the first Rangers boss to fail to win the Grand Trophy.

The Celtic dominance combined with the pressure above meant that White received his marching order in November 1969.

Paul Le Guaren

July 2006 – January 2007

Paul Le Guen, who won three straight wins in three straight games against Lyon, announced in March 2006 as the new Rangers manager, responsible for the 2006/07 season.

It was a huge coup, but the French deceived them in Scotland. The Rangers won just four times in his first 10 league games, trailing the Celtics in the championship game.

Europe is another matter, as the club qualifies for the knockout stage of the UEFA Cup, and it is clear that Le Gua’s style favors the style of the continent rather than the roughness and thriving domestic football.

After Barry Ferguson was stripped of his captain, he dated with shared consent in January 2007.

Michael Beal

December 2022 to September 2023

Michael Beale is the second highest win in club history in the 72.1% win percentage responsible for the Rangers, behind Ally McCoist.

In Bill’s case, that’s not much, because he’s responsible for the second half. He won 14 of his first 15 league games, drawing only with the Celtics, opening up his tenure, but then a decline occurred.

The defeat of the Celtics 2-1 in the League Cup final was a blow, and Jales went on to lose two games and drew one of their last eight games.

The poor signing in the transfer window that summer led to a bleak start to 2023/24, as the light blue lost three times in the league before the end of September while failing to compete in the Champions League group stage.

Despite his high win rate, Beale was fired after only ten months in charge.

Philippe Clement

October 2023 – February 2025

Where to start Clement? Although there are many names called Bill’s potential successor, former Bruger coach was appointed as the new boss in October 2023.

Like many new dates, the club enjoys a new manager rebound. Not only did they secure a spot in the knockout stage of the Europa League, but Clement led Gers to his first League Cup since 2011.

Despite counterattacking in the Premier League title, the Celtics won their third league title in a row, while the Rangers lost the Scottish Cup final.

Hopefully is high before the current campaign, but the opening day raffle draw sets the tone for the coming months with Hearts.

After the firing, Light Blue won only 17 of its 27 Premier League games, losing five times, and lagging behind its competitors by 13 points.

Football is incredible to watch, and the team no longer worry about traveling to Ibrox, which proved in Scotland Park’s victory in the Scottish Cup a few weeks ago.

Pedro Caixinha

March 2017 – October 2017

It may not be surprising to see that we are the worst managers in club history.

Pedro Caixinha is a strange appointment. Before the Rangers, he was in charge of clubs like Leriya, Nanachi, Santos Laguna and Al Gerafa, which was hardly an inspiring management career.

His team beat the Celtics 5-1 at Ibrox, the club’s heaviest loss at home, and worse.

Caixinha failed to strengthen his team, signing Carlos Pena, Eduardo Herrera, Dalcio and Bruno Alves and only Ryan Jack and Alfredo Morelos made a lasting impression in Glasgow.

In the first qualifying match of the Europa League, Luxembourg’s predecessor Niederkorn failed 2-1 in the club’s worst record.

Five of the season’s opening 10 league games have left Caixinha fired after six months in charge, losing to the Celtics and Hibs in the process.

In the 26 games at the helm, the Portuguese manager averaged only 1.81 points per game, while his team scored 30 goals in that spell.

First, it was a terrible appointment, but his stats at the club, coupled with the terrible transfer business and bad football on the court, meant that Caixinha was the worst manager in charge at Ibrox.
