The Glasgow Rangers performed well in their first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against La Liga Side Bilbao, despite being dropped to 10 men earlier.

Robin Propper is believed to prevent scoring opportunities, and since then, it seems that the Spanish team will continue to score goals.

Bilbao had 19 shots throughout the game, but couldn’t find the back of the net. After the referee review, they even saved penalties after the referee’s decision, which happened to be set up in the game before the second round.

However, one person who will miss the game is Propper. Maybe this could have a miracle when the light blue hopes to reach the semi-finals.

Before being fired, the Dutchman had not won a showdown at the time of two losses, failed to pass an accurate long ball from two attempts, and received only 16 touches.

Propper was initially given a yellow card for trouble after tying Nico Williams to the edge of the free throw area.

However, after VAR review, referee Istvan Kovacs upgraded this yellow to a red card to reject a clear goal opportunity.

According to IFAB rules, denying opportunities outside the box produce red cards, although the Ibrox crowd doesn’t fully share that sentiment.

Thankfully, the Gers were able to get a 0-0 draw, putting them in a solid position to enter the second round.

This former Ranger star is better than the Propper

Philippe Clement sold Connor Goldson to Aris Limassol last summer after six seasons with the Rangers, after 309 appearances for the club.

The timing is right, as the centre-back didn’t perform best throughout 2023/24, but he’s still better than Propper, no doubt.

Goldson’s influence was called “Absolute Mountain” by former manager Steven Gerrard in 2021, so he moved to Cyprus.

The British Titans averaged 90% of the pass success rate in Cyprus’ top flight this season while winning his impressive 75% air confrontation and succeeding with 53% of his long ball attempts.

Compared to Propper, Propper achieved an 89% success rate at home while winning 64% air confrontation and succeeding with 48% long ball attempts, which proves that Goldson enjoyed the best sports statistically.

Furthermore, Propper simply cannot handle the body of Scottish football, as opposition attackers can make him better as they have been shipped ten times in the Premier League so far.

Of course, I’m not saying that Goldson is the answer to the club’s prayer, but given the choice, based on the form this season, he seems to be a better option than Propper.

That’s why Gers messed up when cashing out the former Brighton man last year because he’s now much better than Dutch Dud, who hasn’t proven his worth in Ibrox.
