Westerham Golf Club has committed to further investment in its 18-hole par 72 golf course over the winter, which will enhance the quality of the long-term golf experience at the popular club on the Kent/Surrey border.
The club’s ongoing woodland management program is now in its fourth year and over the past month some stunning new landscaping has been created and the playability of the holes has been significantly improved.
The latest works are concentrated in 12 of the coursesth and 15th The pine area between the two holes is mostly covered with hardwood trees and shrubs.
The pine trees are now fully visible and create some stunning views. The fairways on both holes now receive more light and airflow, which will improve the playing surface.
Removal of some mostly out-of-use bunkers has also begun, with the bunker on the left side of the 15th fairway having been re-contoured into a grass swale.
On the 9th hole, the bunker on the left side of the fairway will also be removed. Depending on weather conditions, additional work will be performed throughout the winter to remove, renovate and add bunkers on the course.
Clubhouse improvements
Leaving the golf course and entering the clubhouse, Westerham's main bar will be transformed in January, with large bi-fold doors installed to open up to a patio area, providing stunning views across the course.
The bar will be rebuilt and made larger to accommodate an extra cash register to help speed service during busy times.
A new large TV will also be installed so that top sporting events are always shown and the club's Gamebook golf day scoring service can be displayed in another area of the clubhouse.
Work will begin soon on the driving range to increase the number of pitches and level out the main landing area, while TopTracer ball tracking technology will be installed on all pitches.
Looking ahead to the new year, work will continue on the car park and driveway, with pine trees once again found in abundance, while resurfacing work will be carried out and electric vehicle charging stations installed.
