Through 32 games into the 2024-25 season, the Sacramento Kings have a 13-19 record. The Kings fired head coach Mike Brown after losing to the Pistons 114-113 last Thursday. About a third of the way through the season, Sacramento made a shocking decision.

Just two seasons ago, the Kings were one of the best stories in the NBA. They ended their 16-year playoff drought in the 2022-23 season. That was Mike Brown’s first year as head coach. Fast forward to the 2024-25 season, and the Kings are ranked 12th in the Western Conference. Mack Brown was fired and the team was at a crossroads. Sacramento has the talent to be a playoff team in the Western Conference, but they lack a head coach who can take the Kings to the next level.

What could go wrong for the Sacramento Kings in the 2024-25 season?

Since the 2005-06 season, the Kings have had 13 head coaches. Twelve of them never had a winning record. Mike Brown is a guy who has won multiple seasons. He was the best head coach the Kings had in the last 20 years, and yet they let him go. His relationship with the Kings isn't perfect. However, Brown has proven over the past two seasons that he changes the team's culture. Sacramento will reach the playoffs for the first time in 16 years in the 2022-23 season. The team's record in Brown's first season with the team was 48 wins and 34 losses.

The Kings recorded 46 wins and 36 losses last season and missed the playoffs. The Kings are 13-19 through 32 games into the 2024-25 season and 5-13 over their last 18 games. ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne reports that the Kings don't want to fire Brown but feel they have no choice. De'Aaron Fox is an important member of the Kings and has a lot of influence in the locker room. A few weeks ago, Mack Brown and De'Aaron Fox had a heart-to-heart about the state of the team. Sadly, the team continued to lose and Brown was fired. Now, the team will look for its 14th head coach since the 2005-06 season.
