'You are a burden to the team, happy retirement': Fans cruelly mock Rohit Sharma after poor performance in MCG Test
Disappointing situation with Indian captain Rohit SharmaHis struggles continued in the fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Fans took to social media to express their frustration after a dismal performance in which he scored just three and nine runs in two games, with many cruelly suggesting it might be time for him to retire.
Rohit Sharma has another tough day
Rohit was dismissed early on Day 5, in the 16th over of India's second innings. Facing the first ball of this round, by Pat CumminsRohit tried to flick a delivery that was angled outside off-stump and then straightened slightly. Unfortunately, he only managed to get the lead.
The ball flies to the ravine, where Mitchell Marsh An amazing catch was made. Initially, Marsh tried to reverse the ball over his head, but it popped out of his hands. Marsh showed excellent reflexes and awareness, quickly adjusted, grabbed the ball near his left shoulder and completed a wonderful shot.
The dismissal marked another success for Cummins, who once again outplayed his opponents. Rohit looked calm during his 40-ball stay and seemed to have settled into his innings, but was dismissed for just 9 runs. The breakthrough was exactly what Australia needed at that stage of the game as it nullified Rohit's previous efforts. The Indian skipper's recent performance has added to his dismal results of just 31 runs in five innings in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, averaging just 6.2 runs per game.

It's time for Rohit Sharma to say 'goodbye' to Test cricket 🏏
– Rohit failed miserably and scored only 31 runs in 5 innings in BGT 2024-25 😯 Even Lyon scored more than Rohit 😶🌫️
– It’s time for Dhurv Jurel to replace Rohit Sharma for the SCG Test 💯#RohitSharma𓃵 pic.twitter.com/JaIkb3NZ4N

Earlier in the day, Australia ended their second innings at 234 with Nathan Lyon (40 off 55) being the last to be dismissed. India need to equal their record of 340 runs to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series and keep alive their hopes of the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
