Chris Wood’s Season in New Zealand

Chris Wood said he wanted to play in his native New Zealand for a season before retiring.

The Nottingham Forest striker has spent his entire life season, scoring 18 Premier League goals to help turn the Forest into the Champions League.

The 33-year-old has been signing on the city ground until 2027 but has long-term plans to return to his home country with British wife Emma.

The 33-year-old told New Zealand News: “I’ve talked to my wife about it and we’re definitely going back to live in New Zealand and be a member of New Zealand for a year because I want to experience going home.”

“If it’s about football at the same time, that would be great.

“I want to achieve more in football. It’s weird, say 33. I believe age is just a number, and I hope I can prove that I’ve proved that I’ve proved my best season at 33. And there’s more.”

New Zealand has two professional clubs participating in the Australian A League Wellington Phoenix and Goofy’s expansion team Auckland Football Club.

With 41 goals in 80 games in New Zealand, the country’s most prolific scorer could be welcomed.

“I love two cities very much,” he said.

“100% I’m going to sit on that fence, and it’s soccer at the end of the day. Anything will change.”
