Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk hints about new upcoming contract

Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk has hinted that he will soon sign a new contract after Sunday’s dramatic winner against West Ham United at Anfield.

A 2-1 victory over West Ham means the Reds only need to win two more games to determine the 20th British League champion who is equal to Manchester United’s Tally.

Arne Slot’s side looked like a drop in the score when Andrew Robinson scored his own goal in the 86th minute, at the 1-1 level after Luis Diaz’s opening game. But Captain Virgil Van Dijk sent out from the front and returned home at No. 89 to ensure Liverpool took advantage after the second-place finish on Saturday Arsenal took the lead after Brentford’s 1-1 draw.

The Dutchman ended the season without a contract, scored on Sunday and celebrated by kissing the badge on his shirt in front of the KOP. Asked about his celebration after the game, Van Dijk told H/T ESPN FC: “Everyone knows how much I love this club, let’s see what it looks like next week.”

Van Dijk’s statement comes after Mohamed Salah realizes the future at the club. The Egyptian star has kept him at the club for at least 2027 by extending his two-year contract extension at Liverpool. The 32-year-old striker has been the driving force behind Merseyside’s quest for the club’s 20th League title, with 32 goals in 46 matches in all matches, including 27 Premier League goals.

Virgil Van Dijk expects to sign a new deal in Anfield

Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 and has since consolidated himself as one of the best defenders in world football. Dutch International has made more than 300 appearances for the club, winning seven major honors including the Premier League and the Champions League.

The 33-year-old has been a rock in Merseyside clothing for years. There are speculations about his future and whether he will sign a new contract or leave the club for free transfer. But Van Dijk is expected to follow suit soon after Salah’s new deal.

The centre-back’s title against West Ham means Liverpool only needs the remaining six games to win the Premier League title. This will be done next weekend if they beat Leicester City at Kings Electric Stadium and Arsenal loses to Ipswich Town.
