Dorival was fired as Brazilian coach after Argentina’s humility, and Jorge Jesus reportedly

Brazil fired its coach Dorival junior in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match.

Selecao lost 4-1 to their Arch rivals in Buenos Aires on Tuesday, sparking speculation that his duties would be lightened.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) confirmed his departure in a brief statement on Friday.

It reads: “The Brazilian Football Federation announced that coach Dorival Júnior will no longer be responsible for the Brazilian national team.

“The board of directors thanks the professionals and wishes him success in his ongoing career. From now on, the CBF will work hard to find a replacement.”

Argentina’s defeat marks a bad match for Brazil, which was one of only one of their last five games.

Brazil needs to win the 99th minute championship from Vinicius Junior, defeating Colombia 2-1 in the World Cup qualifiers before Argentina beats.

The previous international window in November had beaten Brazil 1-1 in Venezuela and Uruguay.

Brazil lost five games in the qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round, although they are still likely to reach the finals of 48 teams, one of six automatic qualifiers from South America.

They ranked fourth in Conmebol, with 21 points, 10 points behind Argentina, but 6 points ahead of Venezuela, which dominated the Intercontinental Playoffs.

Brazil faces Ecuador and Paraguay in the next qualifier in June.

Jorge Jesus is Brazil’s favorite

Brazilian reports show that Jorge Jesus is following Dilvar’s favorite.

Although he did enjoy a short but successful spell in Brazilian football matches, the Portuguese coach never coached in international football.

Jesus was a coach from June 2019 to July 2020, winning five trophies during that tenure.

Those honors include the 2019 Cup Free Post Office, Flamengo won the largest award in South American football for the first time since 1981. Jesus also released his first Serie A title since 2009 for Flamengo and won Supopa Sudamericana, Supercopa do Brasil and Brasil and Campeonato Carioca.

Jesus is currently in charge of Al Hilal, who led the Saudi Professional League glory last season.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also known as a potential candidate. However, Ancelotti kept his distance from the reports at a press conference on Friday.

“My contract is clear, I don’t need to add it,” Ancelotti said.

“I have a lot of affection for the Brazilian national team, their players and fans, but I have a contract with Real Madrid.”
